In honor of Valentine's Day coming up, I thought I'd post some old engagement pictures that never made it on the blog. I just love getting to know couples and their love story! Both of these brides-to-be grew up in Norman (my hometown) and the second one went to KU (my alma mater!) They're actually getting married on the same day, so I only get to do one of their weddings, but I'm super excited about it!

I'm so excited to finally share a few sneak peeks of this wedding...it was such a beautiful and fun wedding, I was honored to be a part of it! The ceremony was at McFarlin in Norman and the reception was at the Stadium Club. This couple is not only beautiful, but they are super fun and also very generous (they donated to the Haiti relief fund instead of having wedding favors, such a cool thing to do!) We did our little survey with Emily and Basil...

A day in the life... {of a 2 year old}

So after shooting these sessions back to back, I realized how similar they were and thought I should just post them together! Both of these cuties just turned 2 (we did Riley's shoot on her actual birthday!) and they are both babies I got to photograph as newborns (everyone knows I love to see my newborn clients when they grow up)

We did more of a lifestyle/documentary session with both of these babes, which was perfect since two year olds are busy busy! I just followed them around while they played with their favorite things and did activities they love to do. Riley was at her grandma's house where she likes to pick and water flowers and William was at his house playing with his favorite car and chalk. One last thing they had in common...both are super sweet and super SMART! I enjoyed playing with them...

HOLIDAY CARDS & MINI SESSIONS!!!

I'm pretty sure that only photographers think about Christmas in July and August. But that's because we know there will always be those stragglers who'll call November 30th to see if there's still time to do family pictures for Christmas cards : ) So we like to start planning ahead and encouraging clients to book their holiday sessions early before it's too late and dates are all booked up!! This year we're bringing back the Mini Sessions (woo hoo!!) and we've got some fun new designs to choose from for your holiday cards, including the newest circle design that with a little ribbon resembles a cute little ornament. So here's the 411 on the first Mini Sesh:

AUGUST 28th: 9:00 - 4:00 (studio) 6:00-8:00 (on location)
we will be booking sessions in 30 minute intervals, so email with your
requested time slot and I'll do my best to get you in at that time. studio
sessions will have your option of festive or simple backdrops (or the cute
brick wall!) and various props (couch, stools, etc.) location sessions will
either be an urban or field setting, so be sure to include your preference on
that too!!

COST: studio, $50
on location, $75

cost covers session fee, 10-20 edited online proofs & card design fee

I have had some really great newborns lately, super sleepy and very little crying! This sweetheart was just perfect and she was my second client to be in the new studio!! It makes newborn sessions so much easier when you don't have to redo the client's living room!

I've been trying to think of some new props for newborns and came up with the idea to do the Princess and the Pea. So I was up all night the night before my shoot making the "mattresses". (Can you see the pea??!) Then I thought it might be fun to do a Rapunzel shot with this hat and found the perfect basket that reminded me of a tower. Of course little Emmy was the perfect girl to try my new ideas on!

Oh I just love this sweet couple! They are so in love and so incredibly NICE! Seriously. I don't know if I've ever met two nicer people. Their wedding was last weekend at the quaint Festivities Event Center in El Reno. The building used to be a post office before it was transformed into a sweet venue.

I've started a doing a little interview for my couples so that we can get to know them better and incorporate who they are into their pictures (and have more interesting things on the blog!) So enjoy some of their answers along with a few sneak peeks from their wedding...

{When and how did you meet?}
-We met 4 years ago through Mark's best friend (I just wanted to be friends, but he wanted more). Eventually I gave him a chance and fell madly in love with him!

{What is your favorite thing to do together?}
-Go to the gun range, the dog park or the drag races at Thunder Valley!

- We are complete opposites attract; he likes hunting and I'm a member of PETA!.

Sweet Jocelyn (LOVE that name!!) was such a perfect newborn, she really didn't cry much at all and she definitely gets the award for FIRST NEWBORN TO NOT POOP, PEE, OR SPIT UP on the floor, mom or dad! Pretty impressive. Plus she slept for us! I actually got to photograph her big sister's newborn photos just a little over a year ago. It was fun to get to see big sis again now that's she's all grown up and has hair! I loved these cute hats that their mom brought in. Her friend actually made them for her, Crochet Crafts Creations, check her out!

Back from what, you say?? Well, for one, I'm back from blog hibernation (that happens to me every so often) I'm also back from my AMAZING two week vacation to Europe!!! (pics coming soon!) We were gone from the end of April through the first week of May and it was some awesome time, just me and the hubby, but I really missed my babies!! I must have caught something on the flight home because a week later I had Bronchitis which turned into Pneumonia! But, you guessed it...I'm back from the sickies! Yeah!

So I thought I'd post a few pics of some sessions I did when I wasn't super sick or out of the country.

I met this sweet couple last week at their house to take some maternity pics. They're about to have their first baby and you can just feel the joy of their anticipation. I love being around new parents, it's such an exciting time in their lives and I feel honored getting to share in it. In less than a month I'll be back taking the sweet little girl's pictures, I can't wait! Fun fact: I'd never met the mom before the shoot, but we found out we both graduated from KU in 2002 and know a lot of the same people. Small world!

So every now and then I go through a little blog rebellion where I just completely neglect my blog and my poor clients who want to see their images before I get them online. I've totally done that this last month to so many people, I'm horrible! So to redeem myself, here are a few of them; the first is one of my favorite weddings I've done. It was at the Oklahoma History Center and you've already seen the gorgeous bride, Ali. Her wedding was planned to the very last detail and it was amazing! Everything was very modern and elegant, and also very non-traditional.

The museum had these really fun chairs as part of the Rock & Roll Exhibit...

Ali and Jeff are huge golfers and they both played in college, so we had to incorporate that somewhere!

This little sweetheart is the new sister of one of my favorite little clients. He is going to be an awesome big brother, he really loves his little sis!

I loved this sweet family! Probably two of the best behaved kids I've ever shot. Big brother "W" had all the personality, I loved it when at the end he said to me (in the sweetest voice) "Kalee why are you taking so many pictures of me?". He's definitely a cutie and a sweetheart. I've never seen a big brother love on a baby so much (maybe because at my house the baby is always getting punched or spit on?). But how could you be mean to that precioius face?!

So I've been super backed up and done a horrible job blogging lately, but I promised this family I'd put their session on the blog (sorry there's only one picture!) These brothers are super cute and super close. They totally remind me of my oldest 2 boys, how they're only 1 year apart and have lots of energy! I love how their mom dresses them alike and so cute! I've had the privilege of capturing their sweet smiles and fun personalities several times now. It's always so fun for me to get to see my clients as they grow up. I get to know them even better that way, which is something I really love about my job!

So I've been waiting to post Ali's bridal photos, she was such a beautiful bride! Her wedding was last weekend at the Oklahoma History Center and it was gorgeous!! We shot most of them in or outside of the Colcord Hotel. They were absolutely awesome there, we really appreciated them letting us walk all around. Fun fact, my hubby (aka assistant) worked for the company who designed both of those awesome locations, and even helped with some of the designs (his real job is an architect), so I felt like I had a little more insight to the places : )

So my good friends, Allison and Bryan (remember the cute pregnant girl from a previous post?) had their sweet baby boy and I was able to be there to capture his birth. So exciting!! I just LOVE the whole birth experience; the hospital atmosphere, the anticipation, and the first moment after the baby comes out, it's just the most amazing thing ever! I love how God decided to bring people into this world. It almost makes me want to have another one : ) And little O is just oh so precious!!

Oh, I love this girl!! Seriously... sweetest, cutest thing ever and definitely one of the best one-year-olds I've ever done! And we even got her to smile! She could not have been any more perfect. Her mom told me that she usually doesn't warm up to new people very well, but we definitely hit it off! I first met L when I did her newborn pics and she was teeny tiny, but perfect then too. It's always fun to see the newborns after not seeing them for a long time. She definitely didn't have the curls last time, are they not the cutest thing ever?!!

This wedding was beautiful and the bride was just stunning. The ceremony and reception both took place at Gaillardia so everything was just gorgeous, but what I loved the most was seeing how in love the two of them are and the joy they both had to be marrying eachother. That is one reason I love doing weddings, I just love seeing two people so in love! They were just the cutest! Poppy Lane Designs did the gorgeous flowers and Amy Cakes did the delish cake (I always sneak a bite in of wedding cake, can't resist! But Amy Cakes is definitely my fave!).

So this bride and groom are definitely just as their name implies : ) They were fun, they were easy-going, so in love, beautiful, AND... willing to see each other before the ceremony! (if you can't tell, I love it when I can convince a couple to do that!) Wright on. Also, during the reception one of their groomsmen sang an original song he wrote that had lyrics about marrying Mr. Right, literally and figuratively, it was super cute. (if someone who sees this knows him, I'd love to give him a shout out if he has a website or anything) We definitely enjoyed you guys, hope you like the pics!

Wow, this was an amazing wedding. Beautiful couple, beautiful locations, and not to mention two of the coolest families ever! No joke by the end of the night my husband/assistant actually said to me that he wished this family would adopt him, haha! I had a hard time choosing just one of Lauren, isn't she a stunning bride?!

Loved this green and all the fun colors! It really makes for some fun pictures...

One of the hardest parts for me at receptions is fighting the urge to dance! I absolutely love a dance party and when I hear my favorite song and see everyone out there breakin it down, all I want to do is put my camera down and join them! This was one fun reception too at the OCGCC. The bride and her sisters are all amazing dancers and were having so much fun!

Mike and Megan got married a few weeks ago at the lovely Dominion House in Guthrie. It is the cutest little place! Megan was a gorgeous bride! Enjoy guys, pics will be online soon...

They had the cutest little flower girls and as you can see, they liked to work it!I was so happy when they decided to see eachother before the cermony. It makes pictures go so smoothly to be able to get them done before. Here is Mike just before he sees his beautiful bride!

And he still has the sweetest look on his face as she walks down the aisle, I love it! (PS, way to go hubby, this is one of yours : ) )

It's so fun to watch the little kids dance at the reception. It makes me wish I was a guest at more weddings so I could see my boys out there : )

This was such a beautiful wedding, the ceremony was at the cutest little church in downtown OKC, they had one of the most gorgeous wedding parties ever and the night ended at the lovely Petroleum Club. This couple is super fun, I took them all over campus last Sunday. He played football at OU so we went to the stadium for a few shots too. Kristy does my hair and I had the privilege of seeing her reaction the first time she viewed her wedding pictures. The same day I put them online I went in to get my hair done, so she watched the slideshow on the computer while she was doing my highlights. Wow, holy posting, right?!! (not to mention this my third post in a week, I'm on a roll!!) I usually only like to put up 2 or 3 pictures from a shoot, but I just loved this engagement session, I couldn't decide! It was really fun to do a different location than the usual engagement spots. We shot these at a farm down in Noble last Saturday. I was cracking up when some cows came over to see what was going on.

This couple was high school sweethearts and you could just see that they are so in love! She's going to be one gorgeous bride, can't wait to do your wedding in a few months! Hope you two enjoy...

16 Years later...

So I haven't had the opportunity to do very many senior portraits, but I've always said I'd like to do seniors. They're such great subjects, young and fun, and they can do what you tell them to do without crying in the middle of the shoot (like newborns!)

If you've read my "about me" section on my website, you'd know that I talk about taking pictures of my friends' siblings when I was a kid. Well, this beautiful girl is actually one of the people I was referring to! When she was only 2 years old, her sister (who is still one of my best friends) and I dressed her up in all these different outfits and made her pose for us (my idea of course!) And now 16 years later I got to do it again when I did some senior pictures for her, how fun is that?!

All of these cuties are first borns, which is one of my favorite things about newborns, I absolutely LOVE seeing first time parents with their new child. It's so sweet how in love they are!

Wow. Just realized I am the WORST BLOGGER EVER!! But in my defense, I did take a much needed break over the holidays, which meant no shoots, no editing and... no blogging. Now that the holidays are over (and have been for awhile) I am getting back into the groove and have finally caught up on everything.

I'm really getting to enjoy this old passion of mine again, taking pictures!! It truly is a joy for me to meet new people and get to know them as I spend the day capturing pictures of them. And I'm also loving the editing again. It's so fun to me to take a good picture and make it great. And even more fun to turn a picture into a piece of art. My spring and summer have started to book up, so I should be having more to blog coming soon...

Kansas City Wedding

This wedding was such a blast!! Not only did I get to hang out with old college friends (who I hadn't seen since we graduated!) but I got to work with one of my best friends (amazing photographer in KC, http://www.kristaboan.com/) Bride and groom were beautiful, wedding party was so fun (and not to mention very timely!) locations were gorgeous! I even got to kick my shoes off and dance at the end of the night! What more could a girl ask for?! I love my job!!

Here's another cute couple who's engagment pictures I did over the weekend. They were so cute, they've been together since they were 16! I love that! She is going to be one beautiful bride!!

Okay so I've done a ton of shoots on OU's campus and I'd never heard of the Spoonholder! Who knew?! Apparently if you kiss in it, you're going to marry that person, looks like it's going to work for these two : )

(I also love that you can see McFarlin, the church they will be married at, in the background!)

The other cool thing about this spot is that the bride's grandpa was actually a member of the class of 1949, which was one of the classes who helped return this landmark after it was removed for renovations in the 80's.

I got to photograph this cutie when she was just a week old (she's one of my first blog posts!) and now she's 6 months already! I love getting to see babies grow up! Isn't she adorable?!! The poor girl was so tired, she was going on no nap, note to self: don't schedule baby shoots on Daylight Savings Day! But she was still perfect, just like she was as a newborn, happy and sweet!!

Okay I'm going to try to get better at this blogging business. To get me started, here's what I've been up to the last few months, a lot of engagements! I absolutely love doing newborn sessions and working with first time parents who are just so in love with their new tiny baby, BUT engagement sessions are just as fun! It's so sweet to work with couples that are so in love with each other! Both bring me back and remind me of when I was a newlywed and when I was a first time mom, seems like so long ago!!

This first couple was so fun, both graduated from OU, he played football and she cheered for OU, so where better to do their session than the OU campus, of course! As you can see, they're a beautiful couple, I can't wait to do their wedding!

This couple was also tons of fun. We went all over downtown OKC and even up on some rooftops! They're so laid back, can't wait to do their wedding too!

This couple was so sweet and SO in love!! They actually met on a blind date, so we incorporated that into one of their wedding photos, which I'll post soon!

Of course she was just like that when I did her 3 month pictures, but it was fun that we could take her downtown this time since she can sit up now. This sweet boy was probably the BEST newborn I have ever had! He was perfect! He was awake for us when we wanted him awake and then once he fell asleep, he was out! We moved the poor baby so many times and he never woke up! Plus he had really cool parents, totally laid back! I wish newborns were always this easy : )

For Jason's 30th birthday today, we went up to Arcadia and had lunch at Pops, the cool new gas station/restaurant/soda shop on Route 66. The boys loved it, everyone got to pick their own soda from over 500 different kinds!

My hair (9 inches!)

Last year I saw Hilary Swank on Oprah and she inspired me to do something crazy...cut my hair off!! So I went in last December and had my hair stylist cut off over 9 inches of my hair, but I didn't stop there, I had her dye it dark brown too! It was so not me to do something so drastic, but I told myself, it's just hair and it will grow back!

So I just now finally got around to mailing my hair in to Pantene's Beautiful Lengths, who uses the donated hair to create free wigs for women who have lost their hair from cancer treatments. It was so exciting to be a part of something like that! I am so thankful for my family's health and mine and it felt like something simple I could do to help someone else out. Yesterday I accomplished something I've always wanted to do, I ran a half-marathon! I did the OKC Memorial Marathon, it was awesome! I was dying at the end and literally saying, "I never want to do this again!" But I'm already thinking about doing another one in Novermber...San Antonio if anyone wants to join me!

This week I had the priveledge of speaking to a middle school classroom about photography. It was definitely out of my element, but really fun! Some of the kids were really interested, which was fun because I get so excited to explain how the camera works. I definitely have a new respect for teachers now after spending a week planning lessons and trying to talk over a bunch of junior high kids! I wanted to get a picture of the kids up on the blog, but apparently you have to have a signed permission slip from every parent in order to put their kids' picture online, yikes!

One of my favorite styles I'm now offering is the Urban Shoot. It involves grungy backgrounds, including old buildings, weathered brick walls, and railroad tracks. Fun vibrant colors and vintage clothing works great with this look. This style is perfect not only for seniors and engagement shoots, but also families and kids. So I've decided to finally join the world of blogging. I'm not much of a writer, so I probably won't make a lot of posts, but I love the idea of showing my clients previews of their images as quickly as possible. I know after I've done a session of my own kids I cannot wait to see the pictures, and I'm sure other parents and brides are the same way. I can post pictures on here as soon as the day of the shoot, before I get a chance to edit the full session. I'll probably also ramble a little about myself and my kids so that future clients can get to know a little about me before they meet me. Enjoy!
